Designed by William Burges and begun in 1869, Knightshayes is a rare survival of his work. The rich interiors combine medieval romanticism with lavish Victorian decoration, and the smoking and billiard rooms, elegant boudoir and drawing room all give an atmospheric insight into grand country house life.
A room with original Burges interior designs, featuring Burges furniture and wall-paintings of eighty-three birds is open to visitors, and the celebrated garden features a water lily pool and topiary, fine specimen trees, rare shrubs, and delightful seasonal colours. Attractive woodland walks lead through the grounds.
Guided tours of house and garden for groups by arrangement during season and also on Sun during Nov and Dec. Facilities include; designated parking, drop-off point, three manual wheelchairs available, ramped entrance, ground floor fully accessible, lift to 1st floor if visitors are able to stand. There is also an adapted WC at stables and house entrance.
