Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds is all that you dream of as your
favourite images of the English Countryside.
Sleepy villages with flower adorned cottages, lively pubs with
excellent food, antique shops, market towns and impressive cathedrals,
castles and churches. Gloucestershire is situated in the heart of
Central England, less than two hours drive from London, and less
than one hour from Bristol and Birmingham.
The county falls into five distinctly different areas. Nearly all
of the Cotswolds
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) lies in the county, whilst
in the valley below lie the green pastures of the Severn Vale. The
vale is also the setting for the Regency spa town of Cheltenham
and the historic City of Gloucester, whilst the magical Royal Forest
of Dean can be found on the western side of the county. A county
of contrasts Gloucestershire is considered one of the most varied
counties in England. Many historic towns, villages and splendid
manor houses can be found in the county, including the homes of
many celebrities.
In addition to the spectacular countryside Gloucestershire has
some outstanding historical buildings, including Gloucester Cathedral,
Tewkesbury Abbey and the stunning Regency buildings of Cheltenham
Spa.
