St. Mary's is the most populated of the Scilly Isles and Hugh Town is the 'capital' of the islands.
Within easy reach from Penzance in Cornwall, it's the main administrative centre of the islands and therefore has the most cafes, restaurants, hotels and nightlife.
But away from the main residential area there's a world of ancient monuments, gentle countryside walks and contrasting scenery, from sand dunes to marshes.
A small museum at Hugh Town sheds light on the island's history.
Also check out the many arts and crafts studios on the island where artists have set up home producing pottery and paintings - ideal souvenirs from your trip.
